Astrological Stuff

Last Updated: 28th July 2007

While I don't believe in horoscopes in the slightest, I do have a fascination in it's origins, and the representation of different star signs. For example, I'm a Cancerion, so I am associated with the crab. My Zodiac Sign, however, looks nothing like a crab:

Cancer

I see it as two people wrapping an arm round one another, as a protective sort of thing. Yeah, I can see that in me, but then again, I could just be twisting it to see what I want to see.

What needs to be remembered here, is that there are actually 13 constellations, (Ophiuchus being the 13th), and all constellations are about a month out anyway (from http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~dolan/constellations/extra/Zodiac.html). Nevertheless, the Zodiac signs have a profound effect upon people, do they cause the behaviour of people? Or are horoscopes written so that people will follow them subconsciously, or otherwise be able to twist the day into a horoscope/extended reading? I'd be more inclined to say the latter. If horoscopes were true, I think I'd probably be married right now, or would have had that many girlfriends! I also think I'd be rich, be successful all the time, etc. etc. However, at the time of writing, I'm still single, not exactly rich and not that successful in everything I do... hmmm!

However, though I don't believe in the Astro stuff, I still look at it, for example, I took a look at two "love compatibility" applications (I'm not desperate or anything, I just needed a laugh!) on Facebook... and they gave me very different results. The two signs that I was apparently least compatible with in one application were Sagittarius and Aquarius, yet in another application, I was mid table with Sagittarius and got 4/5 with Aquarius! Bit of an inexact "science" if you ask me, even two different sources can't agree!

I also like the images and the descriptions that you can get associated with astro, in particular, Cancer, as they are quite elegant, artistic. Two of my favourites are below.

Cancer - good traits  Cancer - bad traits

I'll leave it to you to decide which one is more like me!
