About Me

I am a 24 year old PhD student currently in Hull, UK, studying for a PhD in theoretical physics at the University of Hull, specifically looking at the electronic transport properties of Gallium Nitride. Previously, I studied for a BSc (Hons) in Physics with Lasers and Photonics at the same university, which was curiously a more experimental degree. However, it soon became apparent that I was more of a liability in the lab (though really, looking back, I pretty much have always been a liability - just ask everyone who has met me!) and so I shifted focus to a purely theoretical degree. I have never looked back - and I enjoy what I do!

I am very much a family person. I am the oldest of 5 children. I have two brothers, 18 and 9, and two sisters, 23 and 7. Due to my inability to leave my home town when it came to the beginning of my University years (my youngest sister was only 6 months old when Uni started and I didn't want to leave her not knowing who I was - of which I was rewarded by being the first person ever to see her walk!), I still see a lot of my family.

I have also built and now maintain websites for a few people. This used to include the university union's go-karting society's web pages, though it is now offline due to lack of use. Of course, I even occasinally update mine!

If I'm not working on my PhD thesis, or seeing the family, I'm generally out with friends (usually at the pub!), go-karting, playing on my Xbox or PC, reading one of the many "pop-science" books that I own, or generally catching up on sleep! I also have a passion for Formula 1, and I'm not a happy person if you interrupt me when I'm watching it!
